About MKI Competition – Teguh Sukaryo Music Award: Year 2011 marks the first MKI Competition – Teguh Sukaryo Music Award. It is an online competition and is made for real easy access with ZERO application fee. A multi-disciplinary music contest, MKI Competition is open to all citizens of ASEAN countries and Australia. If you are looking for a classical music competition which requires no age limit and yet offers a good number of performance opportunities, you have just found one!

About MKI: MKI stands for Musik Klasik Indonesia. It is the largest, most educative and informative classical music group in Indonesia. This non profit music organization, which exists on Facebook, consists of musicians, teachers, critics, classical music lovers with a number of really devoted volunteers who help administer and run this online community without a penny in return! Chamber music requirements: 1) A maximum of four players; 2) Chamber music with piano is definitely welcome. However, assessment will only be available for the instrumentalist(s) other than the pianist. For example: Collaboration works between a singer and a pianist: We will only consider the singer. (Hence, an interested pianist would need to audition separately, i.e. as a soloist)

Final round: November 05 – November 15, 2012 (Maximum 6 finalists)

REPERTOIRE:

Preliminary Round

A total of approximately 40 minutes worth of music of applicant’s own choice.

It is highly recommended that repertoire will include music in a variety of styles and periods. Selections need to demonstrate the applicant’s breadth of technical and artistic abilities. Singers must include selections in at least three languages, one of which must be English. There is no aria requirement, and no more than two operatic arias may be included.

Final Round

Instrumentalists: At least two major pieces of contrasting period with a total minimum duration of 40 minutes. Applicants may not repeat repertoire from the previous round.

Singer: Selection of lieder and operatic arias with a minimum duration of 40 minutes. Applicants may not repeat repertoire from the previous round.

 

SELECTION

Applicants will be accepted to the Final Round of the competition on the basis of evaluations of the posted youtube videos by independent judges. Notification regarding advancement to the Final Round will be posted on MKI wall on November 04, 2012. Finalists will need to post their videos during the Final Round.

In order to be considered for this contest, applicant must be available for travel and performance at various dates throughout the year 2012. We will try our best to place concerts side by side so to provide convenience and reduce travel cost, nonetheless there is no guarantee of such.

Titles, movements, and the composer(s) of performed pieces must be typed on the video caption. Original pieces are welcome.

TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION AND BOARD EXPENSES

Competitors are responsible for their own travel, accommodation and board expenses.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. It is applicant’s responsibility to provide with the best possible video quality. Poor video quality could jeopardize applicant’s chance to the final round and/or winning the competition.

2. No Application fee.

3. There is only one winner, or one group of winners in the case of chamber music.

4. The winner(s) would need to consult with the chair of the jury and seeks his approval as to what program shall be chosen for their concert engagements. In case of any disagreement in the programming, winner must comply with the discretion of the jury chair.

5. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

REPERTOIRE:

Babak Pendahuluan:

Durasi sekitar 40 menit berupa musik pilihan pemohon sendiri.

Sangat dianjurkan agar repertoar dapat mencakup musik dalam berbagai gaya dan periode. Seleksi diutamakan menunjukkan luasnya kemampuan pemohon dalam hal teknis dan artistik. Penyanyi harus menyertakan pilihan dalam setidaknya tiga bahasa, salah satunya harus dalam bahasa Inggris. Tidak ada persyaratan aria, dan tidak lebih dari dua aria opera yang dapat dimasukkan.

Babak Final:

Instrumentalis: Setidaknya dua karya besar dari dua periode musik dengan minimal durasi total 40 menit. Pemohon tidak dapat mengulang repertoar dari babak sebelumnya.

Penyanyi: Pemilihan lieder dan aria opera dengan durasi minimal 40 menit. Pemohon tidak dapat mengulang repertoar dari babak sebelumnya.

SELEKSI

Pelamar akan diterima di Babak Final kompetisi berdasarkan evaluasi dari video youtube yang diposting, oleh juri independen. Pemberitahuan perkembangan dalam hubungannya dengan Babak Final akan diposting di dinding MKI pada tanggal 04 November 2012. Para finalis diharuskan mengepos video mereka pada masa Babak Akhir.

Hal yang harus dipertimbangkan dalam kompetisi ini, pemohon harus berrsedia untuk melakukan perjalanan dan penampilan pada berbagai tanggal sepanjang tahun 2012. Kami akan mencoba sebaik mungkin untuk menata konser secara berurutan guna memberikan kemudahan dan mengurangi biaya perjalanan, namun tidak ada jaminan untuk itu.

Biography of Mathias Boegner :
=====================

The Swiss/German violinist Mathias Boegner
studied in Munich, Vienna and Cincinnati, with the professors
Gerhart Hetzel, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Dorothy DeLay
and Aida Stucki.

He was concertmaster of Stadtorchester Winterthur, Orchestre de la
Suisse Romande Geneva and Shanghai Broadcast Symphony.
He has been teaching at National University of the Arts Taiwan
(associate professor),
Hochschule Zuerich and China Conservatory Beijing (both professor).
He appeared in Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, Havanna, New York (Carnegie),
and recently released recordings of Paganini’s and Ysaye’s
solo works.

His cultural heritage started out with both violin and piano,
and at young age he performed as soloist on both.
Being raised with chamber music,he was nationwide youth prize winner for string quartet in Germany. Later he was awarded by the Flersheim Foundation Lucerne,
the Starling Foundation Cincinnati, the Concerto Competition
Cincinnati, the Jordan Academy of Music Award Amman.
Recently in Bangkok he received the Excellence Award at the Fine
Arts International Conference.

Teguh Sukaryo has studied with Jon Kimura Parker, Peter Takacs, Michael Gurt, and Carmel Lutton, and has been coached by Byron Janis and Einar-Steen Nokleberg. His conducting teachers included Paul Polivnick, Anton Krager, and Frank Wickes. A dedicated teacher himself, Sukaryo was a Joseph and Ida Kirkland Mullen Fellow and served as a faculty member at Rice University Preparatory Program. Teguh is a devoted teacher with twenty years of experience (began teaching at the age of fifteen). Teaching has always been an important part of his life. While continuing giving workshops and masterclasses for advanced students, Teguh also finds it necessary to fight his way back to nurturing younger students through highest quality of music education, as he believes good music foundation is of prime importance.

Teguh Sukaryo graduated with a BMus degree in Piano Performance from Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, NSW, Australia, in 1998 where he always received the coveted High Distinction for his recitals. In 2005, Teguh won the Beethoven Prize in the Grieg International Competition for Pianists, held in Oslo, Norway. Teguh received many awards and full scholarships to further study in USA at such prestigious schools as Oberlin Conservatory, where he graduated with the Artist Diploma (2001); Rice University/Shepherd School of Music, Master of Music (2003); and Louisiana State University, where he studied for his Doctorate course (2003-2004).

His discography includes “Teguh Sukaryo – Brahms, Mompou and Mussorgsky”, “Scenes of Childhood”, Burgmuller Op. 100, and Burgmuller Op. 109. Next year, he is scheduled to release five new piano solo albums.

Teguh was born and grew up in Purwokerto, Central Java. He loves Indonesia – the culture and the people. He also loves nature and arts, and enjoys making friends from all walks of life. His coming cd’s will include “Asia” (featuring classical music of asian influence/origin), “Teguh Sukaryo plays Mompou”, and several cds for educational purposes.
